REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR 2018 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FAMILY PLANNING
Thousands of global policymakers and researchers, young people, faith leaders and family planning advocates from around the world will gather in Kigali, Rwanda for the Fifth International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) on 12-15 November 2018. Organized around the theme “Investing for a Lifetime of Returns,” the 2018 ICFP will highlight the extensive and far-reaching social and economic benefits of family planning investments — for individuals, families and countries.
A record-breaking 3,000 individual abstracts were submitted for the conference, illustrating the growing global interest in family planning. This will be the strongest body of new family planning research presented at an ICFP and this year’s conference will also host the largest number of attendees to date.
In addition to joining all conference sessions and interviewing panelists, journalists will be invited to:
- Attend press conferences tied to major conference moments.
- Join the release of the FP2020 report, which will include the latest data on contraceptive use and access in the countries where family planning progress is most needed.
- Visit local facilities implementing family planning programs, including a community clinic providing counseling to low-income women, district pharmacies and centers providing services to youth, including a vocational training center.
- Meet youth, faith and global leaders spearheading cutting-edge, in-country family planning programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Conference registration fees will be waived for accredited journalists attending in person. Journalists who wish to attend the conference are invited to apply for media accreditation as soon as possible here: fpconference.org/2018/media/journalist-accreditation.
There will also be numerous opportunities to cover the conference and related events virtually, including livestreams, daily updates and local reporting opportunities. Journalists who wish to virtually follow the 2018 ICFP, please fill out the form here: fpconference.org/2018/virtual-participation-interest-form.
The previous ICFP, held in 2016 in Indonesia, featured speakers including His Excellency Joko Widodo, President, Indonesia; His Excellency Dr. Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister of Finance, Indonesia; and Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
2018 ICFP speakers will include high-level officials, accomplished advocates, youth leaders and the world’s foremost technical experts on family planning and its impact on health, economics, development and more. A full speakers list will be announced in fall.
The 2018 ICFP will be co-hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Rwanda.
